Auntie M’s Advocacy Project

A space for stories of resilience, healing, and truth.

Here, voices often overlooked can be heard.

Auntie M’s Advocacy Project was created by Maryellen Hoffman as a space for honest reflection, shared stories, and conversations that are often pushed into silence.

This project exists to explore human resilience through storytelling. Some stories come from personal reflection. Others are shared anonymously by people who want their experiences to help someone else feel less alone.

Many of the topics explored here are difficult: trauma, stigma, addiction, survival, healing, and the complicated paths people take to rebuild their lives. By creating space for these stories, the goal is not to judge or diagnose, but to listen, learn, and hold space for truth.

Auntie M’s Advocacy Project also recognizes groups whose voices are often overlooked, including male survivors of abuse and individuals navigating addiction and recovery. These experiences are frequently misunderstood or stigmatized, and this platform aims to bring more understanding and compassion to those conversations.

Alongside advocacy and storytelling, the project includes creative work such as art, books, and other projects by Maryellen Hoffman. These creative works help support the continued growth of the platform while reflecting the same themes of mythology, resilience, and human experience.

At its heart, Auntie M’s Advocacy Project is simple: a place where stories can be shared, stigma can be challenged, and people can be reminded that healing does not have to happen alone.

Who is Auntie M?

“Auntie M” is the creative and advocacy voice of Maryellen Hoffman.

The name reflects a familiar role many people recognize — someone who listens without judgment, speaks honestly when it matters, and creates space for others to be heard. An aunt is often the person people turn to for perspective, support, and understanding when life becomes complicated.

Through Auntie M’s Advocacy Project, Maryellen shares reflections, creative work, and stories that explore resilience, trauma, healing, and the realities many people carry quietly.

This project is built on the belief that stories matter. When people are able to speak about their experiences openly — without shame, stigma, or dismissal — it becomes easier for others to recognize their own struggles and know they are not alone.

Auntie M’s Advocacy Project is not about presenting perfect answers or polished narratives. It is about honesty, compassion, and creating space for conversations that too often remain hidden.
